Join us as we taste a selection of fantastic wines of Spain that are the buzz-words in the wine industry at the moment, served alongside mouth-watering platters of tapas and spanish-style amuse-bouches.

This particular workshop is all about trying to find the ideal match between each carefully selected Spanish nibble and specifically chosen Spanish wine. Pairing food with wine should be easy and fun, yet so many people become stressed at the idea of make a wine faux pas. Yet the best part about pairing food with wine is the experimentation and delights at finding a pairing that YOU enjoy.
Spain produces amazing quality wine at the moment. But Spanish wine can be intimidating for beginners due to the unfamiliar names — it's more Tempranillo & Albarino than Merlot and Chardonnay. But the secret to drinking Spanish is… it's all about the food!
At the core of Spain we find the classic Rioja joined by the youthful Navarra. To the South we find the mountainous and high-class Ribera del Duero (commanding the highest prices in Spain!) district, with the racy Toro and aromatic Rueda areas in close proximity. On the Galician coast we find Rias Baixas were some of Spain's most distinguished whites are found.
The tasting kicks off with the great whites we can find in this great wine country. Albarino, Spain's high quality white grape variety from Rias Baixas, is the ideal place to begin developing the tasting further with Verdejo, Airen and Sauvignon Blanc whites from Rueda and fruit-bomb Roses from Navarra. The final part of the tasting pitches the old-firm classic region of Rioja against the region of Ribera del Duero which is close to knocking Rioja of the podium for first place - we might discover if it in fact it does rule the roost. Rioja versus Ribera - both made from Tempranillo - the showdown commences ... Join this tasting to discover the delights that are found in Spain. So much emphasis is given to Rioja in the UK, however regions such as Penedes, Valencia and Costers del Segre are now supplying us with fascinating wines that are high quality but also mainly affordable.
The tasting might start by discovering Cava the traditional-method sparkling wines that are produced in the limestone mountains and hills around the beautiful city of Barcelona. Penedes produces a whole host of intriguing varieties whilst the regions of Alicante and Valencia offer affordable styles from Tempranillo and Monastrell (Mourvedre in France). The tasting might also look at the emerging experimental zones of Somontano and Costers del Segre before finishing on the grand finale of a Rioja GRAN RESERVA, a stunning blockbuster red made in Carinena from Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes.
There are some general guidelines you may find helpful when selecting a wine to enhance your meal, all of which will be studied and tested during this tasting! We'll put the theory into practice by pairing our chosen wines with very carefully selected Spanish nibbles, and deliberate which pairing works best for us. What fun!
Indeed, those stunning wines will be served alongside mouth-watering spanish-style canapes, spicy tapas, chorizo, olives, and other delightful finger foods, to enhance all the rich flavours in your chosen wines.
All tastings include: minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, PowerPoint presentation, full tasting notes, use of professional ISO tastings glasses AS WELL AS A FABULOUS SELECTION OF TAPAS!
