Take-Away Asian Food & Wine Pairing Workshop (SOUTHAMPTON)
It used to be a simple affair matching wines with food: white wine with white meat; red wine with red meat. But that's for Western food. Venture into the Asian kitchen and things can begin to look complicated. But it needn't to be ...
Understanding the relationship between wine and food and whether to match or contrast the sweetness or the saltiness or sourness will enable you to make good judgment calls. Therefore, we will start our tasting by coming to grip with elements in our wine such as acidity and tannnin, and elements in our food such as bitterness, saltiness, sweetness and sourness. Once the rules behind matching wine and food successfully explained, we will put the theory into practice ... this is the real fun part of the evening! ;-)
We will not only discuss components, but also textures, sensations and intensity of flavours ... because when the wine and dish are matched for all of the above, a heavenly marriage is achieved.
We will go through all the problems elements linked to Asian food, such as chili, sour agents (ex: tamarind, green mango), umami (ex: soy sauce), dark spices (ex: cardamom, cinnamon, star anise, cumin, turmeric).
Six carefully selected wines will be served alongside at least 8 different types of take-away finger foods, including Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese and Indonesian cuisines.
This pairing workshop will give you all the tools you will ever need to mix and match at home and spend the most enjoyable of take-aways nights in ;-)
