Discover Wines from the USA on Independence Day! (ONLINE TASTING)

Let's have our very own virtual party on Independence Day and taste some truly great American wines

California dominates the US with approximately 90% of the wine production, which is turn is dominated by the large multinationals such as Ernest & Julio Gallo and making cheap and nasty bulk wine. However, at the other end of the spectrum, some of the world’s finest Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel are found here. Indeed, Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley has grown stronger and stronger for the past four decades, and even battled against Bordeaux in the Paris Tastings (Judgement of Paris of 1976), and won, whilst Zinfandel from Lodi is making fall in love with bold and juicy black fruits all over again, as they pair so beautifully well with BBQ foods. Is California arguably making the finest wine in the world then? We shall see …

So step aside California, as Oregon and Washington State are stepping up and leading the way now in terms of quality, with Chateau Ste-Michelle voted THE BEST winery in the World ... quite an accolade indeed!

I would recommend buying in advance: 1 bottle of Zinfandel from the Lodi region of California (for example Brazin Old Vine Zinfandel, available in Waitrose) and 1 bottle of Chardonnay from either Monterey in California or Columbia Valley in Washington State and opening those wines LIVE with us on the night.

PS: Waitrose has really good examples of both grape varieties, with Brazin and 446 Noble Vines, respectively. Both Tesco and Sainsburys sell Carnivor Zinfandel and Dark Horse Chardonnay. You can buy Chateau Ste Michelle Chardonnay, Columbia Valley at for only £14.40 a bottle.

Let's bring some wine fun direct to you and members of your household! ;-)

1 ticket will entitle everyone in your household to attend this tasting (no need to buy a ticket per person!).
