DRY JANUARY? Join our virtual tasting on non-alcoholic beverages for the BEST of the bunch (
The past few years have seen our drinking as a nation take a dive: we’re becoming more health conscious, sober curious and a 2018 study found 30 per cent of young people never drink at all.
It’s no surprise then that the “low and no” movement has grown exponentially in that time ... especially since our first lockdown! No longer are teetotallers stuck with a soda and lime or dodgy alcohol-free beer.
Indeed, things have changed drastically and in a short period of time. We are now quite overwhelmed with soft serves. I, for one, have encountered zero proof spirits that look, smell and taste the part, to refreshing craft beers and all sorts of botanical wonderment – that’s not to mention the extremely impressive mixers, spritzers and kombuchas we had no space for in this tasting, and I'm here to share with you the BEST OF THE NON-ALCOHOLIC BUNCH!
It’s just the alcohol-free wines that seem to be lagging; the really low or no stuff tastes of grape juice in our experience – you have to go up to the 5.5-7.5% zone to really find something enjoyable (check out thefizzcompany.com for some great examples) ... or do we? Let's see what we can discover together ;-)
Here are the 3 non-alcoholic beverages I would like you to buy in advance from Waitrose and open on the night with me:
- Eisberg Sparkling Wine £3.99 (alcohol-free fizzy wine)
- Seedlip Spice 94 Gin £23.50 (alcohol-free gin)
- Adnams Ghost Ship Craft Beer £1.30 (alcohol-free Pale Ale)
This will be a relaxed and eye-opening evening ... from the comfort of your own living-room, during which you will learn how non-alcoholic drinks are made and be surprised by the different styles.
1 ticket will entitle everyone in your household to attend this tasting (no need to buy a ticket per person!).
